ARE YOU WAITING FOR FALL

Are you waiting for the universe to find you falling through space?

She likes to walk at night. She likes

to walk at night between the moons.

She likes the dark, dark streets, with

old trees and cracked sidewalks. She likes

to walk blind, in the dark. Deep darkness

without sight to comfort her brain

with prediction. She likes that moment

when her foot hangs in the unknowing.

Logic says the ground will come, but

in the darkness she can’t see or sense.

In the delicious darkness only faith

maintains forward momentum. She

must trust the existence of the earth

beneath her feet. She must rely on

a warm strong reception for each step.

She waits every night, for the chance

to practise. For the chance to practise

resilience despite frequent stumbles

and the odd fall. She makes herself

practise because she was not blessed

with a naturally stoic nature. She makes

herself practise because she longs

to surrender and trust what she

cannot see. She makes herself

practise surrender with action and

movement. She likes to walk

in the dark, but some nights she

still opens her pocket knife and

walks down the middle of the road.

Every night she walks blindly in the

dark, singing her prayers, trusting

she heads the right way home.

Are you waiting for falling stars to balance your heart whirling through space? Or is there enough space in your heart to hold the secrets of the Universe?
